Become a CA DOJ CCW Instructor

To teach CCW classes in CA the California Department of Justice (DOJ) requires an instructor to receive a CA DOJ CCW Instructor certification. One of the ways to qualify to apply for this certification is to be an NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home (PPOTH) Instructor.

To be a PPOTH Instructor, the NRA requires you to first be an NRA Pistol Instructor AND an NRA Personal Protection In The Home (PPITH) Instructor.

NRA Pistol Instructor - March 12 & 13 = $400 (Register HERE)

NRA PPITH Instructor – April 12 & 13 = $300 (Register HERE)

NRA PPOTH Instructor – May 9, 10 & 11 = $300 (Register HERE)

 

NRA Pistol Instructor - July 12 & 13 = $400 (Register HERE​)

NRA PPITH Instructor – August 20 & 21 = $300 (Register HERE​)

NRA PPOTH Instructor – September 3, 4 & 5 = $300 (Register HERE)

 

NRA Pistol Instructor - November 6 & 7 = $400 (Register HERE​)

NRA PPITH Instructor – December 1 & 2 = $300 (Register HERE​)

NRA PPOTH Instructor – December 29, 30 & 31 = $300 (Register HERE)

The NRA Pistol Instructor classes includes Basic Pistol,

Basic Instructor Training (BIT), and Pistol Instructor.

​

The PPITH classes includes PPITH student and PPITH Instructor.

​

The PPOTH classes includes PPOTH student and PPOTH Instructor.

​

The instructor classes MUST be taken in this order: Pistol, PPITH, then PPOTH.

​

If you are already an NRA Pistol Instructor, you don't have to take NRA Pistol Instructor again, but you must provide documentation you completed it.

​

These classes must have a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 12.

​

Here are the other steps you will need to become a CCW Instructor:

Obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) (before or after PPOTH class)

Fill out and submit this application to become a CA DOJ CCW Instructor (after you take the PPOTH class and after you receive your COE)
